Job Summary

Progressive Technology is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Digital Book Editor (E-book Formatting - Freelancer) to join our remote publishing team. In this role, you will be responsible for editing, formatting, and optimizing digital book content (ePubs, PDFs, and MOBI files) for professional publication on platforms such as Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and others. This position is ideal for someone with a strong command of formatting tools, a keen eye for detail, and experience in digital publishing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Format and edit manuscripts into clean, readable, and professional e-book layouts for various digital platforms (Kindle, ePub, PDF).

  • Ensure consistency in style, typography, font usage, and chapter structure across different devices and screen sizes.

  • Collaborate with authors, graphic designers, and project managers to ensure the final product meets publishing standards.

  • Troubleshoot and correct formatting errors and compatibility issues.

  • Optimize visual elements including images, tables, and hyperlinks for e-readers and mobile devices.

  • Follow brand or author style guides and incorporate feedback promptly.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest formatting standards and tools in digital publishing.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency with e-book formatting software and tools such as Calibre, Sigil, Vellum, Scrivener, or Adobe InDesign.

  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities with a solid understanding of grammar, punctuation, and writing conventions.

  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS as applied to e-book formatting is a strong advantage.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines without supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating clean, readable digital content.

Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in e-book formatting or digital publishing.
