Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. Performs testing, referral to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs administrative support functions as needed. Essential Functions: Patient Care • Monitors and evaluates the psychiatric condition of each patient and in collaboration with the psychiatrist and other disciplines and standards of care, or by applying appropriate protocols, makes decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. Determines and assesses the mental health status of patients by reviewing records and obtaining comprehensive behavioral health histories. Gathers history from patient, providers, and family/significant others as needed. Analyzes assessment data in order to formulate a unique plan of care through identified needs. Relates assessment findings to multidisciplinary team as appropriate. Identifies and reports any abnormalities in assessment data. Performs best practices and maintains HIPAA compliance. Orders and prescribes appropriate medications in accordance with pharmaceutical guidelines and standards and within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area.
